Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Tianche in the vicinity of Bancheng area, Qinzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (108°40′, 22°18′). It was named by Zhong Keng et al., in 1992.


Lithology and Thickness

Chert. Grey-yellow and brown-grey thin-bedded chert, siliceous shale and siltstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Shijia Fm of the Devonian System, with the disappearance of dark-grey cherts from the Shijia Fm and with the occurrence of grey-yellow cherts in the Bancheng Fm serving as a boundary between them.

Upper contact

Unconformable contact with the overlying Pengjiu Fm.

Regional extent

This formation is distributed mainly in the Lingshan, Qinzhou and Fangcheng areas.
